We are ready to begin a sort of continuation of last week where we discussed in detail the Messianic prophecies which demonstrate that Messiah and His disciples are predicted to be Torah observant. That is observing Yahweh’s Law in the Scriptures.

Torah does not mean Talmud. The Talmud is a Jewish document that is based on traditions of men. Torah is Yahweh’s document based on His commandments– Genesis to Deuteronomy, specifically, and Genesis to Revelation I would extend it to as well.

But, anyway, we shared how Messianic prophecy demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that we should be, as disciples of Yahushua, observing Yahweh’s Law.

But it is a common notion in traditional Christianity that we are no longer expected to walk in obedience to the Law, but that now we have a new principle that we are expected to abide by, and that is walking in the Spirit. Traditional Christianity might suggest that since we have the Spirit we do not need to concern ourselves with Law keeping.

But, once again, we will see that the words of the prophets, the words of Messiah Himself, the words of all of Scripture– including very, very clearly Paul’s letters– are going to confirm what it really means to walk in the Spirit. And that is to walk in the Law of Yahweh.

And so, today’s study is entitled: “Walking in the Spirit IS Walking in the Torah.”

Now I realize that to some of you this may sound like a very bold claim. It is quite contrary to what you have heard. And for those of you who are watching this, some may say, “Oh, come on. This can’t be true. No way.”

There are two different things. Listen and hear me out. I think one of the strongest evidences in the New Testament for Torah observance is the admonition in Paul’s letters to walk in the Spirit and what it actually, truly means.

I know I often hear things like, “I don’t have to keep the Law. I have the Spirit. We walk in the Spirit now, not Law.” Or, “There used to be a time when the people had to keep the Law back then, but now we have the Law in our hearts. And so, we walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh, not in the old fleshly commands. We don’t do those anymore.”

And they say, “Well, okay. If you want to walk in the Law and the legalism of the Old Testament, that is your thing, but we are a New Testament Church. We walk in the Spirit. We are Spirit-filled believers.”

Have you ever heard those comments before? Yes, I have also.

So, what does this mean? What does this mean to walk in the Spirit?

You know, we have in some charismatic circles, walking in the Spirit is speaking in tongues and getting very emotional. It is called “spirit-filled.” “We are Spirit-filled believers.”

I am not against walking in the gifts of the Spirit. However, we need to understand, biblically, what it really means to walk in the Spirit. If we are Spirit-filled believers, what does it mean to be Spirit-filled?

There are the gifts of the Spirit, but then there are also the fruits of the Spirit. And we can give gifts all day long, but it is the fruit that Yahweh is ultimately after.

Now what does the word “spirit” actually mean? Scripturally, what does it mean? If you look up the word “spirit” in the Hebrew, you will find it is the Hebrew word “ruach,” which is defined here in the Strong’s Lexicon as: 7307 ruwach roo’-akh from 7306; “wind” (very interesting) and “by resemblance breath.”

And if you look at this word all throughout the Tanakh (or the Old Testament, or even the New), a lot of times this word “ruach” is translated “breath.” Like “the breath of His lips” and “the breath of His nostrils,” and things like that. There are other words for breath, also. But, “wind” and “breath.”

And then the Brown- Driver-Briggs (BDB) Lexicon has here: 07307 ruwach {roo’-akh}. Once again, meaning: 1) “wind,” “breath.” And then translated: “mind” and “spirit.”

So that is the literal meaning: the movement of air. Whether it be through our windpipe or throughout the earth (the winds of the earth), the word “ruach” is used. Now with this in mind, we are going to examine what it really means to walk in the Breath… in the Wind… in the SPIRIT.

It is pretty important, because if you look in Romans chapter 8, verse 1, the statement is made here:

Romans 8:1 – [There is] therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Wow! If you do not walk according to the flesh, but you walk according to the Spirit, there is a promise given to you. And the promise is: NO CONDEMNATION. Now that is the ultimate promise, is it not?

So taking an objective point of view here, whatever it means to walk according to the Spirit sounds pretty good, because whoever walks according to the Spirit and is in Messiah Yahushua will not be condemned. It sounds pretty important.

So we better figure out what this means to walk in the Spirit, so that we will not find ourselves to be condemned, but we will find ourselves to be a recipient of the promise. So how do we know whether or not we are walking in the Spirit?

Now there are many people today claiming to be walking in the Spirit. Some are. Some are not. Some, actually, are walking in their own spirit.

In Ezekiel chapter 13, verse 2, Yahweh had this problem back then, also.

Ezekiel 13:2 – Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, `Hear the word of YAHWEH!’

3 – Thus says the Master YAHWEH: Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!

I am persuaded that there are people out there who believe they are following Yahweh’s Spirit, but they are actually just following their own spirit. And that is something we have to be careful about.

Sometimes it is those who speak the loudest about, “Oh, have to walk in the Spirit.” A lot of times it is those who talk the loudest about that who are actually most guilty of this very thing.

And these same people (and I am not going to judge individuals, just an overall impression) will act as though they are above you and they are walking in the Spirit, and you are down here somewhere, walking in some lower spiritual plane. And you just do not understand because you just have not experienced their experiences.

You have not reached their level, yet. And maybe one day, maybe, if you listen to them, you will come closer to their level. But, for now, they might say, somewhat patronizingly, “Oh, you just won’t understand quite yet because you need to walk in the Spirit. The Spirit will show you.” And so, you have to seek the spiritual things they do, supposedly.

But, you know, that is a haughty attitude. It is not one that I would want to exhibit. It is not Yahweh’s Spirit that that is coming from, that haughtiness.

Scripture says in Proverbs chapter 16, verse 18:

Proverbs 16:18 – Pride [goes] before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

It never says that pride goes before a fall. Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:19 – Better [to be] of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

There are people out there who have led people away from the Scriptures, and say, “You need to follow the Spirit. You need to follow what the Spirit says. The Scriptures have been changed. The Scriptures are not reliable. The Scriptures have to be understood in the context of what the Spirit would tell you.”

And what they are really saying is, “Listen to me. Listen to what I am telling you. Do the things I am telling you to do. If you come to my level, you will reach it one day, maybe. But first, you have to follow the Spirit.” It is really their own spirit or it is an unclean spirit.

It is a haughty spirit, a spirit of pride, that would exalt itself against the Word of Elohim. That same spirit was found in the garden of Eden. “Oh, Yahweh’s command? The thing He told you to do? You surely won’t die. You won’t die. Elohim knows that if you do this…”

He gives a different teaching. He exalts himself against the knowledge of Elohim. We have to be careful about that. And so, I would rather be of a humble spirit with other people who have the same mindset than to join those who ultimately will find themselves falling one day.

But what if we decide, “Okay, I am not going to follow my own spirit. I am not going to follow anything. I am just going to follow Yahweh’s Spirit”? What if we decide we do not want the haughty spirit, we want the humble spirit: “Yahweh, give me a spirit of meekness”?

What if we were to seek to walk in Yahweh’s Spirit without our own will being involved, just whatever He says, we want to do it? We are going to find a very beautiful promise: No condemnation.

Another promise, as well, in Galatians 5:16:

Galatians 5:16 – I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Boy, the lust of the flesh is such a problem, isn’t it? If we walk in the Spirit, we won’t have to worry about fulfilling that lust of the flesh. That is an awesome promise.

So, walking in the Spirit. What does it mean? Well, we know it is the opposite of fulfilling the lust or desire of the flesh, because it keeps us from fulfilling the carnal desires of the flesh. We can establish that pretty clearly.

Walking in the Spirit cannot have anything to do with fulfilling the lust of the flesh. Can we agree on that? Walking in the Spirit cannot have anything to do with desires of the flesh. That is the haughty spirit. That is the prideful spirit.

In fact, if we walk in the Spirit, the lust of the flesh will disappear. We will starve out the flesh entirely. The flesh, our carnal nature, will die of starvation because we are walking in the Spirit. That is a beautiful picture.

Now walking in the Spirit. We see, in Galatians 5:22, it says:

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

It says that “the fruit of the Spirit is love.” That is the one I want to focus on right now. “Love, joy and peace…” There are a whole lot of others, but this is really the central thing, right here– LOVE.

And so, if we are walking in love, then we are bearing a fruit of the Spirit of Yahweh that dwells in us. Now you can’t go around it any other way. You cannot say, “I’ll do love, and then I’ll be doing the Spirit.” No. Ask Yahweh for His Spirit to manifest His love through you.

You cannot go around Him. It has to come from Him. So if we are walking in the Spirit, the fruit of that will be that we are walking in love.

So getting back to our list here, what it means to walk in the Spirit. We will be walking in love. Now what does it really mean to walk in love?

Let’s go back to Galatians 5. This time, let’s look at context.

Galatians 5:13 – For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

We have liberty here, but do not use it as an opportunity for the flesh.

Galatians 5:14 – For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

We are granted liberty, but we are not supposed to use that liberty as an outlet for walking in the flesh. Rather, we are called to walk in love.

Now notice here it says that the Law is fulfilled in one word, one doctrine, and that is: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” To love. Isn’t that interesting?

Other scriptures agree with this as well.

Romans 13:8 – Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

How about that? We will have kept Yahweh’s Law if we choose to love.

Now we cannot love each other unless we love Yahweh. 1 John 5:2 says we can’t. It is impossible for you to love your neighbor. It says, “By this we know we love the children of Elohim when we love Elohim and keep His commandments.”

And so, getting back here. We actually fulfill the Law by loving our neighbor, because we cannot love our neighbor unless we love Yahweh. And we cannot do either unless we have the Spirit enabling us to do it.

Romans 13:9 – For the commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet, and if [there is] any other commandment, are [all] summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

10 – Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love [is] the fulfillment of the law.

That is what it is. That is a promise. So if we understand then that love is the fulfillment of the Law, then we will understand why Yahushua fulfilled the Law. Because He loved perfectly. Because He walked in perfect love for Yahweh and in perfect love for us.

And so, if we love, we are fulfilling the Law. Because every commandment in the Law has one thing in common, and that is: Love Yahweh; love one another.

Yahushua taught this, also. In Matthew 22:36, someone asked Him:

Matthew 22:36 – Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

37 – Yahushua said to him, `You shall love YAHWEH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

38 – This is [the] first and great commandment.

Matthew 22:39 – And [the] second [is] like it: `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Because you cannot do the second unless you do the first.

Matthew 22:40 – On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

And so, we have Commandment 1 and Commandment 2. And from these two commandments hang Yahweh’s Torah scroll (right?), containing all the Law and the Prophets. You cannot sever the two, because they hang there. The Torah hangs from it. Everything in the Torah is about love.

And so, if we love, we are fulfilling the Law. If we fulfill the Law, we are loving. If we love, we will be doing what Yahushua does. Every commandment and principle in the Law and Prophets have to do with love, as we shared last week.

1Timothy 1:5 – Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, [from] a good conscience, and [from] sincere faith,

There you go: “Love from a pure heart.” That is what its purpose is.

1Timothy 1:6 – from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,

7 – desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

They do not understand what they are saying. They do not understand what they are affirming. Neither one, because they do not love. They do not understand that the purpose of the Law is love. That is why they do not understand the Scriptures. They can’t get it.

So back to our diagram. What it means to “walk in the Spirit”: Walking in love and fulfilling the Law.

Now Yahushua fulfilled the Law, right? We know that. He said He did. We know He did.

1John 2:6 – He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

If you abide in Messiah, then you will do what He did. That is what you will do. You will also fulfill the Law.

When Yahushua fulfilled the Law, that does not mean we get to disobey it. It does not mean we are free to ignore it. He fulfilled the Law as an example for us to follow.

If we follow the Lamb wherever He goes, we will also seek to fulfill the Law.

Now none of us have ultimately done that, but that is our passion, our desire– to follow after Messiah. He showed us how to live.

And so, we can add to our list here. What it means to walk in the Spirit is to walk as Yahushua walked– to walk in love, to fulfill the Law.

And so, getting back to Galatians 5.

Galatians 5:13 – For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Do not misuse liberty. Do not see it as an opportunity for the fleshly things. But through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:14 – For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

15 – But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

We do not want to hurt each other. We want to love each other.

Galatians 5:16 – I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Walk in the Spirit. In other words, walk in love, through love, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Lust of the flesh involves the devourment and destruction of one another.

So we find a pretty clear agreement here that walking in the Spirit and walking in love are the same thing. Walking in the Spirit, walking in the fulfillment of the Law, walking as Yahushua walked– it is all one and the same.

And so, do not use the grace and the liberty that we have as an opportunity to not fulfill the Law, to not walk in love and to not walk as Yahushua walked.

Continuing in Galatians 5, he says:

Galatians 5:16 – I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17 – For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

The flesh is trying to make you do things that you really do not want to do.

Galatians 5:18 – But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. What does that mean? And this is where a lot of people get confused. “Oh, well, if I am led by the Spirit, I do not need the Law anymore. If I am led by the Spirit, I do not need to pay attention to what the Law says.”

But let’s continue reading…

Galatians 5:19 – Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

What does the Law say about adultery? “Don’t do it!” Fornication. What does the Law say about fornication? “Don’t do it!” Uncleanness. What does the Law say about that? “Don’t be unclean.”

Galatians 5:20 – idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

What does the Law say about that? “Don’t do it!”

Galatians 5:21 – envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told [you] in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of Elohim.

That is condemnation right there. Pretty serious warning. If we are led by the Spirit, we will not be doing those things. If we are led by the Spirit, we will not walk in these works of the flesh.

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 – gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

In other words, there is a law against those other things. But there is no law against walking in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:24 – And those [who are] Messiah’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 – If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

So the portion they are talking about, the works of the flesh, are not attributes we should have, obviously. That is commandment breaking, law breaking. There is no law against the other things. The Law is all for those things– walking in love.

And so, when it says if you are led by the Spirit, you won’t be under the Law, what is he talking about? Well, there are two ways to find ourselves “under the Law.”

1. Reject the redemption and forgiveness of sin offered through Messiah. If you reject Messiah, you are under the Law then. You cannot be under grace. You cannot be saved because you are rejecting the One through whom Yahweh has chosen to save you. Your sins will be on you rather than your sins being on the Messiah.

And Yahweh has appointed in the prophets that our sins will be laid on the Messiah. Well, if we reject the Messiah, then where will all our sins go? They will go on us. We will be under the Law, the Law’s condemnation. The Law will condemn us apart from our sins (our transgressions of that Law) being on Messiah.

The second way is: Reject the call for repentance. That is the one Paul is talking about in Galatians 5. We cannot reject this call for repentance. And we cannot reject the Messiah, either. You see, the Messiah doesn’t just offer His blood to cover any person. We have to turn away from sin. We have to turn away from transgression.

He is not passing out salvation like a deck of cards to anyone who wants it. We have to respond with love, also, not just take all the love we can get and walk away. We need to respond with love in return. And so, there are two ways to find ourselves under the Law: Rejecting Messiah and rejecting the call for repentance.

Romans 2:4 – Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of Elohim leads you to repentance?

Don’t you know that? If you do not repent, then you are despising the riches of His goodness. You are despising forbearance. You are despising His longsuffering, not realizing His goodness leads YOU to walk in goodness.

Romans 2:5 – But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of Elohim,

6 – who will render to each one according to his deeds:

This is the book of Romans! And so, if we have this attitude that, “Oh, I don’t have to worry about my sins. I have the blood to cover me,” then you are despising the riches of His goodness “who will render to each one according to his deeds.” Now you are back under your own works.

Because you have rejected His call for repentance, Messiah’s blood will not cover your sin. But…

Romans 2:7 – eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

8 – but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness — indignation and wrath,

9 – tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;

Gentiles, also. Your heritage is not going to save you. Whether you are Jew or Gentile, who your daddy is isn’t going to matter. We have to repent. That is why it says:

Galatians 5:16 – I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17 – For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

18 – But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The Law will not condemn you on that final day. The Law will not condemn you because you are following righteousness. You are following love. You are following what the Spirit tells you to do. Lovely promises.

And that is why it said in Romans chapter 8:

Romans 8:1 – [There is] therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are (1) in Messiah Yahushua.” That is the first way to get out from underneath the Law and its condemnation. That is the first way. And… (2) “who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Repentance! Repentance and faith in Messiah. Over and over again in Scripture: Repentance and faith in Messiah. That same doctrine is found EVERYWHERE. So the qualifier here to get out from underneath the condemnation that the Law would otherwise provide is to repent and receive Messiah.

That was Peter’s message in Acts 2:38: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Yahushua Messiah.”

There is only one person who has ever lived under the Law and survived without condemnation, and that is Yahushua.

Galatians 4:4 – But when the fullness of the time had come, Elohim sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

5 – to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Yahushua was born under the Law and was justified because He kept every commandment in the Law. And He redeemed us, who were also under the Law.

See, if the Law is done away with, then nobody is under the Law. But we are all under the Law unless we receive Messiah and we repent and we seek to follow the Spirit. That is repentance– following the Spirit.

So He came under the Law. He could have been condemned if He broke one of the commands, but He did not. And, therefore, He can become our Redeemer, the One who buys us back.

We sold ourselves as slaves to sin, but now we receive adoption as sons and daughters of Elohim. So we are not under the Law. We are under grace.

Romans 6:14 – For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

You are not under the Law. You are under grace. We are set free from the dominion and penalty and repercussions of what sin (transgression of the Law) would do to us. We are under grace.

Sin does not have dominion over us. Our transgressions… we are forgiven for them. We are under grace. And through grace we are set free from the power of sin.

Part of that power is eternal death and damnation. That is the bondage. Yahushua, being under the Law, not being condemned because He did not sin, He did not need someone to come along and forgive Him of His sins. He was a perfect man. But we need Yahweh to extend His grace to us.

If we were strictly under the Law and did not have grace, we would be condemned completely. But we have been redeemed from being under the Law.

Now since we are not under the Law should we sin? Is it okay to sin now? Is it okay to break the Law now? Paul asked that question next by the way.

Romans 6:15 – What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

16 – Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin [leading] to death, or of obedience [leading] to righteousness?

You become a slave to whatever you obey. We sold ourselves to sin. We do not want to go back to the slavery of sin again. That is why Yahushua had to die for us in the first place, right? Because we sinned.

So just because we are not under the Law does not mean we can break it.

Now getting back to Galatians…

Galatians 5:16 – I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17 – For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

18 – But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Romans 8:1 – [There is] therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

So we are walking in the Spirit. Those who are walking in the flesh are in danger of condemnation. And these two verses here (the one in Galatians and the one in Romans) are actually saying the same thing, because we are walking according to the Spirit.

We are not under the Law. We are not under condemnation. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are (1) in Messiah Yahushua and (2) walking according to the Spirit. That is the teaching here. That is how you get saved, brothers. That is how you get saved, as they say. Right?

So look at the full context of Galatians 5…

Galatians 5:19 – Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

20 – idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

21 – envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told [you] in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of Elohim.

Works of the flesh. Law breaking, right? You are not walking in the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is Law keeping, walking in love, fulfilling the Law.

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 – gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

24 – And those [who are] Messiah’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Galatians 5:25 – If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

There are no laws against walking in the Spirit. “Against such there is no law.” The only laws are against walking in the flesh.

And so, walking in the flesh, making it our practice to walk in the flesh, causes us to be put back underneath the Law again because we are refusing to repent, we are refusing to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we are walking in the Spirit, we are not breaking any laws. In fact, we are keeping the Law.

Now the Messianic prophecies show this same thing taught in Galatians. Yahweh says in Ezekiel 36:27:

Ezekiel 36:27 – I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do [them].

He says, “I will put My Spirit within you and you will break all My laws because I have done away with it,” right? NO!! “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to WALK in My statutes. You will KEEP My judgments. You will DO them.”

That is what Paul is talking about. When he brings up the Spirit, he understands that. “We are going to walk in the Spirit Yahweh gave us. Hey, we have the Spirit now. Let’s walk in it!”

What is the Spirit leading us to do? Keep His statutes. Keep His judgments. Do them.

What if we choose not to do them? What if we decide we are not going to keep His statutes and judgments? Then, according to Scripture, we are in a spiritually dangerous playground of walking in the flesh rather than walking in the Spirit.

There are plenty of Bible teachers today who offer that way of salvation, which is not true. The “once saved always saved” crowd– “Oh, live how you want after you receive Messiah. You cannot lose it.”

You know, there were teachers like that in the first century. In the first century, there were teachers teaching the same thing, that once you receive Messiah, it doesn’t really matter what you do.

2Peter 2:19 – While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.

20 – For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Master and Savior Yahushua Messiah, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

They were promising liberty, but they are right back in the worldly things again themselves.

2Peter 2:21 – For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

You cannot turn away from the way of righteousness and still expect to be saved.

2Peter 2:22 – But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to his own vomit, and, a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

We do not want to be pigs and dogs. And yet, people say, “Oh, grace covers it all. Don’t worry about your sin anymore. He will accept you. You can trample all over it.” It is worse to be telling people that, having known the way of righteousness.

People say grace covers it all. We are in worse condition preaching such a thing than if we were an unbeliever. Worse than an unbeliever, according to Scripture, because you cannot promise liberty until you have both components of getting out from underneath Torah and its condemnation of us, and that is: Faith in Messiah and repentance.

So we do not want to turn away from the holy commandments.

You know, liberty is freedom from the penalty and repercussions and the wages of sin, which is damnation and death. That is liberty.

Compare our relationship with Messiah and our Father in heaven to our relationship with our own children. We may not expect everything we ever will teach them to be observed when they are age 2, right? But as they get older, we require more of them.

And so, if we have come into faith, Yahweh does not expect a whole load of the Torah, a whole load of knowing and understanding of how to walk in love toward Him, how to walk in love toward each other. He does not unload all that at once. We are young. So do not burden yourself way down.

Let the Word ingest in your heart and go into the nourishment of your body and flow throughout so that your body can begin a process of building habits of love and righteousness. That is walking in the Spirit.

You know, we give our children grace to make mistakes. But if their hearts are in the right place, we will forgive them. We may have to discipline them sometimes, but they are still our children. That is how Yahweh leads us.

Now, if our children are going, “Well, I am just going to do whatever I want, because my dad and my mom, they will forgive me anyway,” so he goes off and he does whatever he wants, is that how our relationship is supposed to be with our children? Is that how our children are supposed to relate to us?

No, and, of course, that is not how we are to relate to our heavenly Father, either. It is common sense. I mean, we understood relationships from the time we were babies. We were taught, “Do what your parents tell you.”

So we have been called to liberty because He receives us where we are. But do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, for disobedience. That is the bottom line.

Galatians 5:13 – For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

James 1:25 says:

James 1:25 – But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues [in it], and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

You see, the Law brings us liberty because it shows us the way of love. And the way of love is the way of freedom. Now the Law itself cannot give us liberty. We need a Savior for that. But it can show us the way of love, the way of liberty, the way of freedom. And so, we receive with meekness the implanted Word so it can do its work.

Now we know Yahushua fulfilled the Law. He did not just fulfill the Sabbath Day. He did not just fulfill the Festivals. He did not just fulfill the clean and unclean laws. He fulfilled the whole Law– the commands to love your neighbor as yourself.

Yahushua says:

Matthew 5:17 – Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

What does it mean to fulfill? If I told my son, “Son, would you bring me a glass of water?” and he brings me a glass of water (and here I have a glass of water), he fulfilled my commandment, right? That means he did what I said. Yahushua fulfilled His Father’s commandments. That means He did what His Father told him to do.

Now we are also supposed to fulfill the Law as we saw earlier. We are also supposed to walk as He walked.

So, we are told in Romans:

Romans 13:8 – Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Yes, Messiah fulfilled the Law. And so are you to do the same. We have come full circle, haven’t we? We are supposed to walk as He walked, right?

1John 2:6 – He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

You cannot look at the Law, and say, “Well, He did that for me, so I do not have to.” Rather, you look at the Law, and you say, “Wow! Yahushua fulfilled that. Let’s fulfill it, too. Because He lives in me, He will do in me what He did when He was on the earth.” That is what it means to walk in the Spirit.

Yahushua died for our sins and filled us with Yahweh’s Spirit so that we could walk as He walked, so that we could walk in Yahweh’s statutes and judgments to do them, so that we would stop walking in the lust of the flesh. And so, the time has come that we are to walk just as He walked.

Romans 13:11 – And [do] this, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation [is] nearer than when we [first] believed.

12 – The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

13 – Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

Those are the works of the flesh.

Romans 13:14 – But put on the Master Yahushua Messiah, and make no provision for the flesh, to [fulfill its] lusts.

If we cast off the works of darkness, if we start fulfilling Yahweh’s Law, if we start putting on Yahushua Messiah– then we will not walk in the flesh.

1Peter 4:1 – Therefore, since Messiah suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

You will have to suffer in the flesh if you want to arm yourselves with Messiah, if you want to be led by the Spirit, if you want to walk in the Spirit.

1Peter 4:2 – that he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of Elohim.

Once again, what is the will of Elohim? Observing the Law, which is contrasted with the lusts of men.

If you have suffered in the flesh, you have ceased from sin. If you have crucified the flesh, you have ceased from sin.

What is sin?

1John 3:4 – Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

That is what it is.

Romans 3:20 – “… by the law is the knowledge of sin…”

Romans 7:7 – “… I had not known sin, but by the law…”

So the Law teaches us what sin is and what sin isn’t. If we transgress the Law, then we are committing sin. BUT… we need to understand:

Romans 3:20 – Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

“By the deeds of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight.” That means declared righteous. For by the Law is just the knowledge of sin. The Law just tells you what sin is. It does not justify you. The Law only, apart from Messiah, condemns you.

Now if we understand this right here– if we can get this right here– then we will go through the writings of Paul and it will make perfect sense.

You see, Paul was dealing with people in those days (the unbelieving Jews) who wanted to twist the good news of Messiah into something else, some kind of thing where you had to do _____ (fill in the blank… circumcise, or whatever) before He would even look at you. You had to do “x, y, z” and “a, b, c.”

But the truth is Yahweh is willing to save us that very moment in time that we turn our hearts to a faith and belief in Messiah and turn away from the ways of hatred and toward the ways of love. That is repentance. And He can accept us right there at that spot. No performance necessary. Just faith and belief and a change of heart.

And it is for that reason, my study today does not condemn. The Christians, who, though they do not understand, yet, about observing Yahweh’s Law completely, they are still accepted by Yahweh because they are sincere in their efforts to obey Him to the best of their understanding.

Because, the truth be told, I still have things to learn. I will have things to learn until I draw my last breath. I cannot condemn someone else for their lack of knowledge when I lack knowledge. We all lack knowledge. But in what we learn (and what we know) we should share that others might know.

So if we turn to Him in repentance, no matter how awful or wicked or ugly, or whatever our sin might be, it can be placed on Messiah Yahushua. There is no mark He cannot erase. He will meet us right there. He will lift us up and He will take us to awesome places. He will change our life forever. I believe that.

I used to minister at the County Jail here in Douglas County, Missouri. And they wanted to know whether or not Yahweh would accept them. Murderers wanted to know! I did not say, “Well, how many Sabbaths have you kept?” No!! I did not ask them, “Do you pronounce the name exactly like I do?” No!!

I did not ask them, “How many Feast Days have you observed now?” I did not ask them that. I did not ask them whether they ate pork that week.

The beauty of the good news is that if we just turn our hearts to righteousness, and in our heart repent and receive Messiah, He accepts us right there. And as part of our repentance, we will begin to learn His will for our life– at His pace, as the Spirit leads us. And we will begin to walk what we have learned, yes, as a result of our repentance.

And, you know, it was true in the Old Testament time period, also. You read Ezekiel… “He who turns away from the errors of his ways and turns toward righteousness,” He says, “none of his unrighteousness will be remembered.” That is a promise. It has always been that way. It has always been about a father/son relationship.

When we come to understanding Messiah, now we are responsible with that understanding that He died for our sins. Therefore, we have to believe that. We have to receive that.

So we only can be saved and justified by the righteousness of Yahweh that is placed in Messiah, which Messiah is willing to place in us as He dwells in us.

In one sense I do believe we do not have to keep the Law of Yahweh. In one sense. Now, don’t hit the “Stop” button, yet. Before I get shot, let me qualify that.

If we have to keep Yahweh’s Law in order for Him to save us, I would be lost, you would be lost, everybody would be lost– because none of us have. But there is a subtle difference you have to be careful about, because some people are teaching, “Well, since you are not saved by your Law keeping, why keep it?”

Why keep it? Because we have repented. Why keep it? Because we want to walk in love. Why keep it? Because it shows us the way of righteousness. That is why.

And unless we have a heart that desires to walk in righteousness, we will not be justified, because we are insulting the Spirit of grace, not knowing that the goodness of Yahweh leads us to repentance.

Do we see the difference? The Serpent is very subtle. “Hath Elohim really said?” You know, the whole sick deception is compelling people to a wrong attitude. One evil attitude insults the Spirit of grace. A righteous attitude shows appreciation for it.

Out of appreciation, out of a love for Yahweh, out of a love for our fellow man, we desire to walk as Yahushua walked. We do not want to transgress the Law again because that is why Messiah died for us. We do not want to try crucifying Him afresh. No! And so, Paul says:

Galatians 5:13 – For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not [use] liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

That is the expectation.

So the very definition of sin is Law breaking even though we are not justified by it. He did not say, “It used to be we would know what sin was by the Law.” He does not say, “I used to know what sin was because the Law told me. The Law used to tell me what sin was way back when.”

It does not say, “Whoever commits sin is breaking this new law of Messiah that came out 30 years ago.” No. Whoever commits sin transgresses the Law. We do not want to sin.

And so, those who say we do not have to concern ourselves with keeping the Law of Yahweh, they are actually saying, “It is all right to sin now. You will not surely die. You can sin. And you can disobey. It is just laws. It has been abolished now. You walk in the Spirit. Forget about the Law. Walk in the Spirit.”

It is so wrongheaded. That is not Scripture. That is not what the Scriptures teach.

Now, if you do love Yahweh and you do love each other, yes. The Spirit of Yahweh is going to lead you to a condition where you will love Him and where you will love your fellow man and sin will not have dominion over you.

Romans 6:14 – For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 – What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

16 – Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin [leading] to death, or of obedience [leading] to righteousness?

Romans 6:17 – But Elohim be thanked that [though] you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

18 – And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

You do not sin. Certainly not! You cannot get any clearer than that. There is obedience and there is disobedience. We become a slave to one or the other.

Now I want to get back here… Some would say, “Well, the physical, fleshly stuff, the things that we have to physically do, that is done away with. That part of the Law is done away with. You know… Sabbath keeping… Feast keeping… refraining from pork… those kinds of things.

“That is all carnal commandments having to do with the flesh. Therefore, you do not have to do them.”

If that were true, then do not baptize, because baptism is a physical commandment representing a spiritual truth. Feasts are physical commandments representing spiritual truths. Sabbath, and, yes, even clean and unclean, there are spiritual ramifications to those, as we plan on getting into.

And so, we are not walking in the flesh if we are choose to get baptized. We are not walking in the flesh if we choose to keep the Feast Days or the Sabbath Day. No! In fact, Scripture says the Law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

Romans 7:12 – Therefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

And he says…

Romans 7:13 – Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

What is good is the Law. “Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not!” So the Law is not dead to you. You are dead to the Law. As far as the Law is concerned, you are crucified with Messiah. There is a difference.

Transgression of the Law produced death, not the Law. Yes, it took the Law to condemn us. We had to have a commandment so that we would know how to live, so we would know what sin was, so we would know what goodness was, what holiness was, what justice was. And so, the Law itself is spiritual. It is a spiritual thing.

Romans 7:14 – For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

The Law is a spiritual thing. It is not a carnal thing. The problem is we are carnal. We sold ourselves under sin. That is the problem.

The problem is not the Law. Yahweh did not have to take the Law away so that we could become spiritual. No. He did away with the carnal man.

See, the Law is spiritual. In fact, Yahushua said:

John 6:63 – It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and [they] are life.

Think about the ramifications of that: His words are spirit, and they are life.

You know, Yahushua, it says, is the Living Word which became flesh and dwelt among us. His words are not just found in the book of John. They are also found in the book of Genesis, in the book of Leviticus, in the books of Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.

He is the Word in Luke. He is the Word in Matthew. He is the Word in Paul’s writings. He is the Word in Revelation. He is the Living Word no matter where the Word is found. And He says, “The words I speak to you are spirit.”

So when we choose to partake of the Word, when we choose to read the Word, when we choose to let the Word soak into our hearts, that is an act of Yahweh’s Spirit entering into us to impart life to us. It cannot impart death because the old man is crucified with his evil deeds.

It cannot impart death because Yahushua lives in us. It is not we who live anymore.

So when we choose to let the Word take root in our hearts, then we are asking the Spirit of Yahweh to come, to descend down and enter into us. Because the Word is Spirit and it is truth.

There are words of death out there today. There are words out there which are not life. Those are the words originating from the serpent in the Garden. But the Scriptures, not so.

And so, walking in the Spirit, therefore, is not breaking the Law of Yahweh, as is commonly thought. Walking in the Spirit is obedience to the Law of Yahweh– OBEDIENCE to the Law of Yahweh.

Walking in the flesh is not Torah observance. Walking in the flesh is BREAKING Torah– sin, transgressing Torah.

And so, if the Law is summed up in love, and joy, and peace, and long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control– these are the fruits of His Spirit because they are the fruits of obeying His Law, which is spirit and is life.

Yahushua is one day going to rule and reign over the earth. And He is going to lead every man, woman and child on this earth to walk in the Spirit, to walk in the way of righteousness, because it says in Isaiah chapter 2:

Isaiah 2:2 – Now it shall come to pass in the latter days [That] the mountain of YAHWEH’S house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.

3 – Many people shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YAHWEH, To the house of the Elohim of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of YAHWEH from Jerusalem.

What are His ways? What are His paths? For out of Zion shall go forth what? The Law. And the Word of Yahweh from Jerusalem. A future time here. It has never happened. Never! But it will.

Isaiah 2:4 – He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.

No more wars. No more envy. No more fighting. Just the implanted Word in the hearts of men to walk in His Spirit, to walk in His Word.

That is why we see the entire planet one day going to the House of Yahweh in Jerusalem, because out of Zion will go forth Yahweh’s Law and the whole world will finally learn what it REALLY means to walk in His Spirit.

This is the New Covenant time period. Messiah is reigning in Jerusalem. He is judging the nations for their violence and anger and their wars and their fights– for walking in the flesh. And He is going to teach us the way of love. No more fighting… love.

“Everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem [Armageddon] shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.”

All nations. Not just Jews. Everyone. Everyone will keep it. And the New Moons and the Sabbaths…

Isaiah 66:22 – For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me, says YAHWEH, So shall your descendants and your name remain.

23 – And it shall come to pass [That] from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me, says YAHWEH.

All flesh. Jew and Gentile.

Isaiah 66:24 – And they shall go forth and look Upon the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, And their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.

Those who walked in the flesh.

So the only question is– the only question, for you and for me– is this: Whether we want to walk in the Spirit now, whether we want to gather on the Sabbath now, whether we want to keep the Feast Days now, whether we want to hear the Law now. You either hear it now or you hear it later. You either walk in the Spirit now or else.

The only question is whether we want to be delivered from our carnal man in our hearts and minds and walk in the Law of Yahweh today. That is the only question.

Romans 7:24– Paul says:

Romans 7:24 – O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

He answers His own question.

Romans 7:25 – I thank Elohim — through Yahushua Messiah our Master! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of Elohim, but with the flesh the law of sin.

We have two laws we can follow: The law of sin or the Law of Elohim. Two laws. Two teachings.

The law of sin– the teaching of sin, the carnal way of walking. The teaching of sin is the teaching that Adam received in the garden of Eden from the serpent. We inherited that. That is why our body is a body of death.

But the other is the Law of Elohim. And Paul says: “I serve the Law of Elohim. I serve it. I do what it says. I am subjected to it, because the Law is spiritual. I am carnal, sold under sin.” (Romans 7:14, and we are going to back up here.)

And he goes to explain how he would be in the carnal way:

Romans 7:15 – For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

16 – If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that [it is] good.

“But I am not,” basically, is what he is saying. The Law is good. It is a good thing. It is not an evil thing.

Romans 7:17 – But now, [it is] no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

He is saying, “I don’t want to do it anymore.” But sin, this carnal thing, is inside him.

Romans 7:18 – For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but [how] to perform what is good I do not find.

“To will” means “I want to do the right thing.”

“But how to perform what is good I do not find.” You cannot find it in the carnal man.

Romans 7:19 – For the good that I will [to do], I do not do; but the evil I will not [to do], that I practice.

20 – Now if I do what I will not [to do], it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

In his mind, it is no longer him that does it. It is sin dwelling in him. What can we do about this sin thing dwelling in us all the time? He says, then:

Romans 7:21 – I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.

There is this alternative law here. We all know how this feels, don’t we?

Romans 7:22 – For I delight in the law of Elohim according to the inward man.

“I do. I really delight in the Law of Elohim,” he says.

Romans 7:23 – But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

“I see another law [another thing going on] in my members, warring against the law of my mind.” This Law of Elohim. It is in his mind. This law… “I want to do good, but I have this body of death always around me. All the time. I have to get rid of this thing.”

Romans 7:24 – O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

That is the context here.

Romans 7:25 – I thank Elohim — through Yahushua Messiah our Master! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of Elohim, but with the flesh the law of sin.

And he goes on to say in chapter 8:

Romans 8:1 – [There is] therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are (1) in Messiah Yahushua, who do not walk according to the flesh (and that is number 2, that we talked about earlier), but according to the Spirit.

Romans 8:2 – For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yahushua has made me free from the law of sin and death.

The law of the Spirit of life is Yahweh’s Law. The law of sin and death is when you are wanting to do good, evil is there trying to fight against you and put you to damnation, trying to give you this body of death, this disobedience to the Law.

But the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yahushua recognizes that we are delivered from that. We are saved from that.

Romans 8:3 – For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim [did] by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

The Law is not able to do something.

Romans 8:4 – that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

There is a qualifier. The “righteous requirement of the Law” is a qualifier… “that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” That is the qualifier. You must walk according to the Spirit.

What does that mean?

Romans 8:5 – For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those [who live] according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

What are they going to do? They are going to set their minds on the things of the Spirit. What are the things of the Spirit?

Romans 8:6 – For to be carnally minded [is] death, but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.

What does that mean, then, to be spiritually minded? Do we want to walk in the law of sin (which is carnal) or the Law of Yahweh (which is spiritual)? Do we want to follow the teaching of the Spirit or the teaching of the carnal nature? Do we serve the Law of Yahweh with our minds?

Yahweh wants all of our hearts. The Law will teach us. And that is what he is saying here.

Romans 8:7 – Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against Elohim; for it is not subject to the law of Elohim, nor indeed can be.

Why is it enmity against Elohim? For it is not subject to the Law of Elohim. So if we want to be spiritually minded, therefore, we would be subject to the Law of Elohim, right? Because to be carnally minded is to not be subject to the Law of Elohim. And I hope that puts an exclamation point on what this study is all about!

If we are spiritually minded, we will observe the Torah. If we are walking in the Spirit, we will observe the Torah.

This word translated “subject to” is from the Greek word: 5293 “hupotasso,” meaning: “to subordinate; reflexively, to obey.” We need to obey the Torah.

It is exactly what Ezekiel 36:27 said:

Ezekiel 36:27 – I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do [them].

Isn’t it a blessing how everything lines up perfectly? Yahweh’s Word is in complete unity. There is not this “Old Testament” in one corner and the “New Testament” in the other and they are just duking it out, you know. No! It is one sweet unified word of truth.

Yahweh does not change with the times. He is not a chameleon. Yahushua the Messiah is the same yesterday, today, forever. He was the Word of Yahweh in the beginning. He is the Word of Yahweh in the end.

And if we have been crucified with Messiah, then it is no longer we who live, but Messiah who live in us. The life which we now live in the flesh we live by faith in the Son of Elohim, who loved us and gave Himself for us.

Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Messiah; it is no longer I who live, but Messiah lives in me; and the [life] which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of Elohim, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

If He lives in you, then that Spirit that is in you is not going to lead you to do something drastically, completely different than what Messiah did. No. He put His Spirit in you. He writes the Torah on the tablets of your heart so that on the outer layer would reflect obedience, so that on the outer layer would reflect the Messiah.

And so, if we walk according to the flesh, that is not Law keeping. That is Law breaking. Those who are in Messiah, walking in the Spirit, are going to be subject to Yahweh’s Law and will not teach it is done away with and you do not have to obey it anymore.

We cannot blatantly sin, which is to transgress the Law, so that grace may abound. So we need to walk in the Spirit, walk in the Ruach.

Yahushua walked in the Ruach. He spoke the Ruach (the Spirit). There was no disobedience found in Him. He who says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him.

You know, one thing Yahweh repeats over and over again, all throughout Scripture: “Keep My commandments.” Sometimes He will say something once, sometimes twice, sometimes three times, or He repeats Himself to make sure you do it, but how many times does He say, “Keep My commandments”?

So let us walk in the light.

1John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Yahushua Messiah His Son cleanses us from all sin.

IF we walk in the light.

We are not saved because WE kept Torah, but because HE did. But now, let’s walk in it. His Word is a lamp unto our feet, a light unto our path.

Proverbs 4:18 – But the path of the just [is] like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

And listen, I know some of you listening to today’s study, you have never heard these things before. You did not know. You were not aware. I am not saying He has not been with you. I am not saying He has not known you. I am not saying He has not loved you. I am not saying He has not received you. I am saying this is the path of the just. Walk in it.

Walk in it. Walk in the Spirit, and let the light of His Law, His Torah, shine brighter and brighter and brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. His Law, His Word, which is a lamp to our feet, will lead us there if we let it.

With the guidance and help of His Spirit, He will lead us to what He wants us to do, when He expects us to do it, and He will empower us to walk in it. We don’t have to worry about that.

And as you walk in it, let it shine. Do not be ashamed. Do not be afraid. All the darkness in the world cannot put out the light of a single flame. Let Yahushua, that Torah keeping Messiah, shine through you.

It glorifies Yahweh, because when we let the light of Yahushua shine in us, we know the Messiah glorified Yahweh, and therefore, Yahushua is manifesting through us. He is showing Himself through us what He was really like. He was a Sabbath Keeper. He did not break the Torah. He kept it.

Now concerning the past, we are free from all of our sin. We are free to leave behind our old ways where we ignored and we broke Yahweh’s Law. We are not held to the past. The old man is dead.

Will we let Him live His life, as He lived on earth, through us? That is our choice, unhindered. That is our choice.

Will we walk in His light? Will we walk in the Spirit? Will we walk in the way of perfection?

Psalms 19:7 – The law of YAHWEH [is] perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of YAHWEH [is] sure, making wise the simple;

The Law of Yahweh is perfect. It did not need correcting, converting the soul because it translates us from a disobedient habit to an obedient habit, and it leads us to the feet of Messiah, where we failed to be obedient.

Psalms 19:8 – The statutes of YAHWEH [are] right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of YAHWEH [is] pure, enlightening the eyes;

9 – The fear of YAHWEH [is] clean, enduring forever; The judgments of YAHWEH [are] true [and] righteous altogether.

What does the scripture say? “Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, meditate on these things,” right? You know the scripture.

Psalms 19:10 – More to be desired [are they] than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

More to be desired are what? The commandments. It is better than anything this world’s riches could provide you, that any food you could possibly eat.

Psalms 19:11 – Moreover by them Your servant is warned, [And] in keeping them [there is] great reward.

I believe that. I believe there is great reward in keeping them. I have found that. I am not perfected, yet, but in the places where I have, I have found that to be true. And it will be true in the age to come as well.

And so, let’s cry out to Him.

Psalms 19:12 – Who can understand [his] errors? Cleanse me from secret [faults].

13 – Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous [sins]; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

Let’s walk in the Spirit and not let the flesh have dominion.

Psalms 19:14 – Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O YAHWEH, my strength and my Redeemer.

Lovely, lovely words. Are we in unity on these words? There is GREAT reward for he who overcomes.

Yahushua said:

Revelation 3:21 – To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

Overcomes what? The flesh. Temptations. The sin that so easily besets us.

We choose to walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh. “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne.”

Think about that. He took a pile of junk, like myself, and like you, like all of us, and says, “Come up here and sit with Me. Come up here. I accept you. I receive you. My grace covers you. Will you seek to overcome like I have? I will empower you. I will enable you. I will fill you with the Spirit because I overcame also. I know how to do it.

“I sat down with My Father on His throne. I will empower you to keep My Law.”

Revelation 3:22 – He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

“… to the Congregations.”

It is an honor to reign with the King of creation, to sit with Him. And the King of creation says, “It doesn’t matter if I said it 2000 years ago or 3000 years ago. All that matters is that I said it.”

You can call it the New Testament. You can call it the Old Testament. You can call it what you want. But, brothers, it is Yahweh’s Word. We need to hear it. And we need to do it. It is all His Word. It is all His Spirit. And it is all life.

It is Yahushua’s walk. It is. It is Yahushua’s walk.

And so, let’s seek to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Yahweh no matter when He said it. Thankfully, in Yahushua we have an example of this very thing lived out. And we can do it. Because Yahushua the Messiah is in us, we can do it.

We have the righteousness and we have the strength we need that is necessary for us to walk in the way, in the path, that is narrow (the narrow path), that is pure and that is new– walking in the Spirit.
