Part 11: What the Scriptures REALLY Teach About Health. Lots of people have an idea of what, you know, the key is to good health and long life. And Yahweh has His ideas of what the keys are to long life and some of the things that hinder us from having a nice, long, healthy life.
Now we are all going to die one day. There is no question. There are some who have diseases and sicknesses and that’s because it is appointed to man once to die, and after this the judgment.
But if it’s not such, if it’s not really Yahweh’s will that this would be your time to go, so to speak, there may be spiritual roots, things in our lives that we might be doing or doctrines we’ve picked up or ideas we’ve had about ourselves, about others, about Yahweh that are not according to His Word.
So we want to make sure we have a perfect understanding of what it is that Yahweh says about us and what He says about others and what He says about Himself and embrace the truth and reject any and all lies.
Now in the previous segment, we examined the importance of embracing our identity in the Messiah and resolving any bitterness that we may actually have against ourselves.
Now in the previous broadcasts, we talk quite a bit about bitterness against Yahweh, bitterness against others, and now we are discussing bitterness against ourselves. And these are the three areas that have a tremendous impact on our health.
A relationship with Yahweh lacking love, security and trust.
A relationship with others having bitterness and unforgiveness.
And a relationship with ourselves lacks love and a sense of worth.
Woman particularly, that is how they receive love, is by a husband nourishing, cherishing, building up, and so on. And there are a lot of people, though, not just women, who simply do not like themselves. But women, particularly, it is something that Satan wants to zero in on and get you feeling like you do not have value.
Now the world may not value a person, but Yahweh has tremendous value in a person. And the world may value us by how we appear– the kind of body we have, the kind of facial features we have, the things on the outside. Yahweh values us inherently, regardless of what we look like and regardless of whether or not we have sinned against Him.
But there are many who will stand in front of a mirror and just down deep they see themselves as an ugly person, a person of little worth, a person of little value, a person of low importance. And you question. You question whether you are truly loved and valued at all.
And maybe you’ve been told all your life that you are just second rate, that you feel like you are on the outside looking in all the time, different than the others, on the fringe, maybe an outcast, maybe the black sheep of the family, the one that often gets ignored or overlooked. And so, you doubt your worth.
And how we feel about ourselves can impact our health. A lack of self-esteem, self-rejection, guilt, self-hatred, are all very damaging to our spirit, sometimes because of, perhaps, we were abandoned as a child. We experienced abuses. We were neglected from a parent.
Often times it starts with the father in the home and it’s important that we, as fathers, we instill value and worth in our children, especially our daughters.
But can you look in the mirror, and say, “Well, hello there, child of the King, the light of the world”? Can you look in the mirror, and say, “I’m an ambassador for Messiah. I am made beautiful and desired by the King”? That, “I’m alive unto Messiah. I’m a new creation”?
Can you say, “I’m transferred to the Kingdom of the Son of His love”? Can you say that, “I am Yisrael”? Can you say, “I am Yahweh’s chosen”? Can you say, “I am a special treasure, His jewels”? Can you say that?
If you have struggles with saying that about yourself, you may have problems with doubt about your worth and your value, because all those things are things that Yahweh says about you.
And when you hear things written in the commandments, what do you hear? Do you hear condemnation or do you hear conviction? Do you hear cursing or do you hear just correction? Do you hear discouragement or do you hear encouragement? Do you hear you are “never good enough” or do you hear, “Let Me take you to a higher level”?
Do you hear binding chains or do you hear liberty? Do you hear cutting criticisms or simply instruction in righteousness? If we hear the things on the right side of this chart, we may be struggling with bitterness against ourselves and doubt about Yahweh’s love for us and our value in His eyes.
Now I want you to think about something. The Scriptures say that we are His workmanship. We are His creation.
Ephesians 2:10 – For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah Yahushua for good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Now if we are His workmanship, if Yahweh is the One who made us, if we are the work of Yahweh, is it possible for Yahweh to make junk? Does Yahweh ever make junk? Does Yahweh ever make something… the fact that Yahweh Himself made us gives us value, no matter what.
You cannot look in a mirror and call yourself a mistake. You can say that you have made mistakes, but you are not a mistake. You cannot look in the mirror, and say, “Look, there is a failure.” You may have failed from time to time, but He did not create you to be a failure. And you are not a failure.
It is impossible for Yahweh to make junk. Now even if you are born with a disability, maybe you have something with your eyes or you are unable to walk properly, or whatever disability you may have, guess what? I also have a disability. I am unable to save myself. We all have a disability. We are unable… unable… to save ourselves.
So just because we have a physical disability, we are actually all in the same boat when it comes to being disabled. We are needy. And our own mistakes did put us in that position, spiritually– a place of disability where we are unable to save ourselves.
But Yahweh has a purpose in a physical disability, and He is willing to make us able to be overcomers by the power of the Living Messiah dwelling in us.
Listen, even if you don’t view yourselves as being very beautiful outwardly, the Scriptures say:
Psalms 45:11 – So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He [is] your Master, worship Him.
Yahushua greatly desired our beauty. Now was He only talking outward? I think He was looking at the heart. He saw the beauty that we are, because we are Yahweh’s creation. He does not make junk.
Listen, there is no other person like you on the planet. There will never be another person like you ever made. Every single person that Yahweh created, He created unique, special and different than the others.
Each person has a created purpose, has a created plan, and whatever junk we were involved in as unbelievers, in the Messiah Yahushua, we are a new creation.
2Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone [is] in Messiah, [he is] a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Do we believe that? Do we embrace that? Do we accept that? Important question.
1Peter 2:9 – But you [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
10 – who once [were] not a people but [are] now the people of Elohim, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Look at that! This is what He says you are: A royal priesthood, a chosen generation, a holy nation, His own special people, the people of Elohim. That is what He says you are. Do you agree with Him? Do you doubt that?
Ephesians 2:19 – Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of Elohim,
20 – having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Yahushua Messiah Himself being the chief [cornerstone],
21 – in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in Yahweh,
Ephesians 2:22 – in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of Elohim in the Spirit.
You were created to be Yahweh’s dwelling place.
Now in relation to health, there is an important connection. A man by the name of Henry Wright had done a lot of research into spiritual roots of diseases and had a lot of success in resolving disease and sickness by resolving the spiritual root of it. And he says this… he says… (I’m sorry, it is not Scriptures. It is a quote.)
“The body attacks the body because the person is attacking themselves spiritually in self-rejection, self-hatred and self-bitterness. There is a spiritual dynamic that comes in which the white corpuscles are invisibly redirected to attack living tissue while ignoring the true enemy, which is bacteria and viruses.
“As the person continues to attack himself or herself spiritually, the body finally agrees and the white corpuscles start attacking the body. That is a high price to pay for not loving yourself.” Henry Wright, “A More Excellent Way.”
This would include diseases where the body is attacking the body, like Type 1 Diabetes, where the body’s immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, therefore eliminating insulin from the body.
Not loving yourself is also related to fear and anxiety. A failure to love yourself can lead to a lack of confidence, a lack of assurance, which results in fear and anxiety, a fear of failure, a fear of not measuring up, and so on. And so, you lack joy in your life.
Proverbs 17:22 – A merry heart does good, [like] medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
Whatever could cause a broken spirit– either we hate ourselves, we are wounded and we hate others. It says:
Proverbs 18:14 – The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?
Proverbs 15:13 – A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Do you have sorrow of the heart? If your spirit is broken through guilt, you feel guilty for things that you have done, you question whether you are forgiven, you don’t believe you are worthy to be forgiven and you can’t even forgive yourself…
Something maybe has happened in your life, something that you did to hurt another person or perhaps hurt Yahweh, and you have a hard time letting go of guilt. You have ongoing issues with valuing yourself. If that is you, I am going to share some Scriptures with you.
Because no matter what you believe or who you believe you are, one thing is definitely true, and that is you are loved and valued by Yahweh your Creator, even if you are an unbeliever… even if you are an unbeliever… even if you are an unbeliever.
Romans 5:8 – But Elohim demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Messiah died for us.
So He greatly desired your beauty and He demonstrated His love for you. You are His workmanship in that while you were yet sinners, Messiah died for you. Very important for us to grasp that. It is not based on what we have done. It is based on who we are. We are His workmanship.
There are some who are still operating under the Law. They feel as though if they can perform to a certain level THEN Yahweh will accept them. Perhaps they have had those kinds of patterns in their childhood.
In fact, there are some people who are attracted to the Hebrew Roots Movement because they believe, you know… they are looking for something in the Scriptures to validate how they feel inside.
And, of course, the Law has plenty of places where a person can find condemnation. And, actually, the New Testament Scriptures also have plenty of places where someone could find condemnation.
Anything that was really designed to create conviction can be twisted to cause us to feel condemnation, but I have noticed there are some people who are attracted to the Hebrew Roots Movement because they are trying to resolve how they feel inside.
They feel, “Well, maybe by observing these commandments that are not observed by traditional Christianity, it will help me feel better about myself and give me a sense of worth and identity.” Because deep inside there is a serious doubt about their salvation and they are not sure whether they are really, truly accepted by Yahweh.
And so, they embrace these things, looking for something to set them apart, to make them feel better about themselves. Now that is not the right motivation, but Yahweh can use even our mess ups and our misconstrued ideas and turn them into something good. But here is the truth:
Ephesians 1:3 – Blessed [be] the Elohim and Father of our Master Yahushua Messiah, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly [places] in Messiah,
4 – just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
Get that. Before He even created the world, He already chose you. Before He even created the world, He already chose you.
Ephesians 1:5 – having predestined us to adoption as sons by Yahushua Messiah to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
Adoption as sons and daughters.
Ephesians 1:6 – to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.
“The glory of His grace.” It is a glory to Him that you and I, in spite of our idiosyncrasies, in spite of our failures, in spite of our sins and the way we have hurt others and hurt Him, it is a glory to Him that He will grant you grace, by which He has made us what? Accepted in the Beloved. By what? The glory of His grace.
He has made you accepted in the Beloved. Do you believe that? Do you believe that you are accepted in Messiah? And it is a glory to Him that you are.
Sometimes we are afraid to forgive ourselves because we are not sure Yahweh has forgiven us. And that is the root issue. We are afraid to forgive ourselves because we are not sure that Yahweh has. And so, we doubt the extent of His grace. Think about this, though:
Matthew 18:21 – Then Peter came to Him and said, Master, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?
22 – Yahushua said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Indicating, you know, an infinite number of times. Now if Yahweh expects us to forgive seventy times seven, maybe seventy times seven in a day, how many… I mean, is Yahweh Himself going to be below us in terms of grace and mercy? Or is He sure to be even greater than man in terms of love and grace and mercy?
He is not going to give us a standard that He would not Himself keep. So if you are expected to forgive your brother seventy times seven, certainly Yahweh’s mercy is not going to be below your level of mercy.
But we find, you know, maybe the more rules we learn about, the more of the Torah we realize we should be keeping, the less certainty you may feel about your identity because the standard is so high. You may feel it’s too high for us to obtain.
But listen, we’ve got it all wrong. We think we have to obtain a certain level before we can receive the identity… before we can actually be accepted in the Beloved, we have to reach a certain level of righteousness, and then He will finally accept us and love us and have mercy on us, and all those wonderful things He says about believers.
Then it will be yours… behind curtain number two. But the curtain has already been open. It was torn in the temple when Yahushua died for our sins. It is not how Yahweh relates to man.
Maybe you think that, okay, Yahweh has forgiven you for all your sins. You are a believer now. But then when you sin one time, out you go. You are not a believer anymore, until you come back to Yahweh again and ask for forgiveness, and then you are a believer again. He accepts you.
And the next time you happen to sin, He rejects you. You are an unbeliever. You are going to hell. You are going to the lake of fire. In and out of a relationship multiple times a day.
That is not how relationships work. It is not how it works. It is not how it functions. It is not how any relationship in the world functions.
Do you do that with your children? They make a mistake, you kick them out of the house? You bring them back in. You kick them back out. You bring them back. No, it doesn’t work that way. The Word of Yahweh says, “Turn your heart to Me. Receive My Son Yahushua,” and with one simple decision, He already knows you have a repentant heart.
He will give you an identity, and all the things He said about who His people are will be you. They will be yours if you just turn your heart to Him. And everything He says about who His people are, that is you. Get this:
1Corinthians 6:11 – And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of YAHWEH Yahushua and by the Spirit of our Elohim.
Who is he talking to? The Corinthians. They were a total mess! Division and all kinds of problems… sexual immorality and… Yeah, he is telling them, “You were… were… washed. You were sanctified. You were justified.” Why? Repentance.
There are two keys to salvation. Number one… two necessary things… Repentance and faith in the Messiah Yahushua.
Acts 2:38 – Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Yahushua Messiah for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Simple. Paul said:
Acts 20:20 – how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,
21 – testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward Elohim and faith toward our Master Yahushua Messiah.
Repentance toward Elohim, number one… and number two, faith toward our Master Yahushua Messiah. It is really that simple. And when we do those things, we put our faith and trust in Elohim through Yahushua Messiah, and we turn away from our wrongs, we receive salvation. It is that simple. And we become children– sons, daughters– of Elohim.
Galatians 3:26 – For you are all sons of Elohim through faith in Messiah Yahushua.
It can happen in five seconds. If you get on your knees and you repent and you receive the Master Yahushua– and everything He says about believers, that is you. Everything!
If He is waiting for us to attain a certain level or to somehow be perfected in a certain area before we are counted believers, we have a misunderstanding of what the gospel is. Even Paul himself didn’t believe that.
In Philippians 3:12, he says:
Philippians 3:12 – Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Messiah Yahushua has also laid hold of me.
Because his heart is repentant, he presses on.
Philippians 3:13 – Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 – I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of Elohim in Messiah Yahushua.
He does not regard himself to already have been perfected. He had turned away from sin, but he is putting the past behind him, the things that he did which were very wrong. He murdered and tried to imprison and persecute the believers.
He said, “Forget all that stuff. Okay, I did that, but I’ve got to reach forward. I’ve got to reach forward.” And that is what you and I need to do. We need to be forward thinking believers. We can’t keep staring and looking back and staring at our past transgressions.
And so, repentance simply means to turn away from unrighteousness, turn toward righteousness, away from following Satan and his ways, toward following Yahushua and His ways. And that includes seeking truth and learning more about what Yahweh desires of us.
That includes coming to Him, seeking forgiveness if we do sin and recommitting ourselves to not repeating the same mistake. None of us– not myself, not anyone on this planet– are one hundred percent perfected. And so, where is the line drawn between the believer and the unbeliever? We are both lacking perfection.
The difference is the believer is pursuing righteousness and seeking out ways to improve himself, yielding himself to Yahweh’s Word. The unbeliever is not. The believer is putting their faith in the Messiah Yahushua for the forgiveness of sin. The unbeliever is not.
The fact is, you may think you are perfect already, but guess what? None of us are a finished product and Yahweh is probably trying to get your attention with something. He will lead us at a pace that we can handle. No one sits down and eats all the food they are going to eat for the year in one setting, right?
You don’t sit down and eat an eighty or ninety course meal and then you are done… you’re done for a week… you’re done for however long… you’re done for a month. You eat a little bit at a time. And Yahushua knows that.
Spiritually you are going to have to take a little chew and a little bite at a time, and chew on that for a while, and let it become a part of you.
It is a process of discipleship. It is a process of sanctification. You pick up a little here, a little there. You apply it. You obtain it. You overcome it.
You get to the next level, move on to the next thing, while He is already accepting you… not because you have reached a certain level, but because your heart is yielded to His will and you are pursuing overcoming sin. You are on the way, the path. And the path of the just grows brighter every day. So it is just how it is.
And so, the Shepherd is going to lead you one step at a time just like you do your own children. You don’t force everything on them at once.
So if we repent and we put our trust in Messiah for the forgiveness of sin, we don’t have to hear condemnation and cursing when we hear the Word. We are only going to hear, “Okay, that convicts me. That corrects me. That instructs me.”
And so, what we have to do once we realize that Yahweh accepts us right where we are, we need to do the same thing. We need to accept ourselves for where we are. Why? Yahweh already has. He can meet you right where you are at. You need to meet yourself right where you are at.
Maybe you had very condemning parents, maybe a father you could never please, like a carrot on a stick. Acceptance is right in front of you, but the minute you step forward, the carrot moves forward with you.
But, you see, Yahweh is different than that. It’s not how He operates. When you make a mistake– when you, out of weakness, commit a sin– He is actually willing to forgive.
And, in fact, when we repent and we turn our lives over to Messiah, the worst sinner in the world could get on his knees, humble himself before Yahweh, receive the Messiah Yahushua, turn away from transgression and from sin…
And He will accept them right there where they are at, and be just as accepted as someone who has been a believer for fifty years and done many marvelous works in Messiah. We are all going to the same place.
So Yahweh is different. He accepts you first. And then, out of a loving relationship, He leads you and guides you. It is not a carrot on a stick. You already got the carrot.
You are munching on the carrot and you are walking along enjoying life in Messiah, and proving yourself, changing yourself, letting His Word mold you and lead you in a relationship of love, acceptance and peace.
The truth is, if you say you have no sin, you deceive yourself, and the truth is not in you.
1John 1:8 – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This Scripture is so important. If you have self-bitterness, self-hatred, this Scripture is so important. To confess means to agree: “Yes, I have sinned. And I don’t like it. I don’t want that to be a part of my life. I don’t want to make that decision. Yahweh, help me to overcome. Have mercy upon me, a sinner.”
So Yahweh acknowledges you, and I– all of us– have some sin in our life. We may not know it, but as He reveals it to us, we confess it and we forsake it. He accepts you because it is already a forgone conclusion: You are a repentant person, that when you do something wrong, you are making an effort to overcome that temptation.
And it is a forgone conclusion that you don’t intentionally live and wallow in your sin. And so, it is just a matter of confessing that sin before Yahweh and seeking the cleansing and forgiveness that He promises.
It doesn’t mean that if you commit some kind of sin you immediately change from a believer to an unbeliever, because He already knows that it is in your heart to repent when you do something wrong.
So if you die someday in the future, you die and you didn’t yet ask for forgiveness, He knows it was already in your heart to do so. He knows whether your heart is repentant or not.
So we need to understand the relationship dynamic in the way He functions and, hopefully, the way you function as a father or a mother.
I mean, would you kick your son out of the house the first mistake he made and then let him back in when he repents and then kick him back out when he makes another mistake? In and out of the house the son goes? I mean, that would be the most impatient father on the planet.
But Yahweh is not impatient. He is longsuffering. He is merciful. He is love. If we know that Elohim is love, what does Scripture say?
1Corinthians 13:4 – Love suffers long [and] is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
He is willing to wait it out. He is here for the long haul.
1Corinthians 13:5 – does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
6 – does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
7 – bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1Corinthians 13:8 – Love never fails. But whether [there are] prophecies, they will fail; whether [there are] tongues, they will cease; whether [there is] knowledge, it will vanish away.
Never! That is a picture of what Yahweh is like. He is all these things. So the question is do we believe it? Do we believe Yahweh or do we believe ourselves and what we think, or what the enemy and the thoughts he plants in our minds? Because listen, not every thought that is in your head is actually your own.
Satan, while I don’t think he can read our thoughts, he is able to speak into our minds and tell us lies– lies about ourselves, lies about others, lies about Yahweh. We might think they are our own thoughts. We might even feel guilty for thinking those thoughts, but in reality, those thoughts came directly from the enemy.
Now Satan would have us believe that our Father is not just, that He is unjust. Scripture says Yahweh is just. Satan would have you think that Yahweh is not faithful. Scripture says Yahweh is faithful. Satan would have you believe that Yahweh will not forgive your sins. Scripture says Yahweh will forgive your sins.
Satan would have you believe that you are not cleansed. You are dirty. You are ugly. Scripture says you are clean from all your unrighteousness. You are clean. And then Satan will lie to you and try to make you feel guilty for thinking those thoughts to begin with. It is an old trick. He has been doing this for a long time.
We realize, though, our minds are a battle ground. It is not just our thoughts that enter the battlefield. It is not just our thoughts that are brought to our mind. Yahweh brings things to our mind, also, by His Spirit, if we are going to let Him.
Satan brings his doctrines because he is an unjust leader– ruler of the planet, Scripture says.
And we, of course, know that Yahweh is the ultimate Ruler over all things. So which ruler do we choose to believe?
Yes, sometimes we have our own thoughts, too. And sometimes those thoughts are influenced by the things that we have agreed with in the past. Scripture says:
2Corinthians 10:3 – For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
4 – For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal but mighty in Elohim for pulling down strongholds,
5 – casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Elohim, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Messiah,
That is what we’ve got to do. So when we get these thoughts into our head about us being unaccepted, being worthless, even though we’ve confessed and repented of our sins to the best of our understanding, we need to take those thoughts captive, grab a hold of them, put them in a box and kick them out.
Reject those thoughts in Yahushua’s name. Toss them out in the garbage pit where they belong. Because those are evil thoughts that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Elohim. Those thoughts are not according to the Word of Elohim, and therefore those thoughts are at war with Him.
And so, we cast down those arguments against Yahweh, fighting against them, saying, “No! I believe Yahweh, not you, you evil, lying thought, you!” That’s what we do. And by Yahushua Ha Mashiach we have the victory.
We say, “Okay, yes, I have sinned, but Yahweh tells me if I confess my sins, He is faithful and just to forgive. It is a lie to say He is unfaithful and unjust. I know who you are, you evil thought.”
Satan is a liar and the father of it. We need to come to a place where, in spite of all the other voices in this world– voices from others, voices from parents, voices from people we thought were friends, people that were even a spouse– and we have to say, “No, I am going to believe Yahweh’s voice and heed Yahweh’s voice.”
Just as we believe, “In the beginning, Elohim created the heavens and the earth,” and if someone came along and said, “No, evolution happened. That’s how we, you know… a big bang. There was nothing and then everything was created from nothing.”
Just like we reject that thought, “No, that is a lie. Elohim created the heavens and the earth and everything that in them is.”
In the same way, when the enemy comes, and says, “You have no worth, no value. You’re a failure. You’re a mistake. You’re this. You’re that,” we are going to say, “No, that’s a lie. Because I have embraced the true good news. Yahushua the Messiah came to save sinners, not the righteous, and Yahushua can accept me right where I am.”
He accepted Paul right where he was. He accepted Peter even though Peter denied Him three times. He is no respecter of persons. Don’t let the enemy lie to you, and say, “Yahweh is a respecter of persons.” He is not.
So He will meet you right where you are just as He met Paul, just as He met Peter, just as He met David when David sinned, so that we realize we don’t have to be afraid of judgment.
1John 4:18 – There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
We have to receive the love that Elohim has for us and not think that we are headed for torment, so that when we read the Scriptures, we believe the good news and we don’t hear condemnation. We just hear conviction. We don’t hear cursing. We just hear correction. We don’t hear discouragement. We hear conviction, encouragement.
We don’t hear, “I’m not good enough.” We hear, “Let Me take you to a higher level!” We don’t hear “binding chains.” We hear “Liberty!” We don’t hear cutting criticism. We just hear instruction in righteousness.
And I have a whole study on this very topic I shared in the summer of 2015. It is on the Archives page.
Let me tell you what a lovely freedom this is to hear His Word and not see it as a harsh taskmaster to beat you down, but to see it as a gentle Shepherd encouraging you, “Follow Me. Follow My leading. Follow My example.” And so, Yahushua says:
Matthew 11:28 – Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 – Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 – For My yoke [is] easy and My burden is light.
He will lead you step by step, and sometimes He will just have to carry you along, but He will lead you at a pace that you can bear. No one sits down and eats everything they can eat for the year in one setting. He knows that. He will take you one step at a time… one step at a time.
You know, if my child came to me, and said, “Dad, I really messed up. I am so sorry. Will you please forgive me? I did this. Will you help me? I don’t want to do this wrong thing. I’m having a struggle with my flesh. I don’t want to do this anymore,” do you think I’m going to go, “Nope, sorry, you’re not worth anything… Good-bye”? No!
I would say, “Of course, I forgive you. Let me help you. Let me pray for you.” Embrace them. Care about them. We are all in the same boat really. So, you know, almost everything we need to learn in order to really understand how Yahweh deals with us, we actually can learn from being parents to our own children.
And even Yahweh Himself said this:
Psalms 103:10 – He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
11 – For as the heavens are high above the earth, [So] great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 – As far as the east is from the west, [So] far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Psalms 103:13 – As a father pities [his] children, [So] YAHWEH pities those who fear Him.
Why?
Psalms 103:14 – For He knows our frame; He remembers that we [are] dust.
15 – [As for] man, his days [are] like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 – For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more .
But what?
Psalms 103:17 – But the mercy of YAHWEH [is] from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,
It is going to outlast this dusty frame that we are given… if we choose to fear Him. That means not fear Him in a sense of fear of torment, in a sense, but in awe and respect and reverence and care. A fear of displeasing Him. A fear of not loving Him. Because He is so lovable and wonderful.
So do you have value and worth? Scripture says:
Psalms 139:14 – I will praise You, for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made ; Marvelous are Your works, And [that] my soul knows very well.
You are wonderfully made. That’s you. You are wonderfully made. Yahweh says so. Anything other than that is a lie.
“Marvelous are Your works.” You are one of His works. And so, you are marvelous. “And,” David said, “that my soul knows very well.”
Psalms 139:15 – My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, [And] skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 – Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When [as yet there were] none of them.
Psalms 139:17 – How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O Elohim! How great is the sum of them!
18 – [If] I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
And so, for those of you who feel beat down and condemned, cursed and discouraged, because, although you are repentant of your sin, you have no assurance of your life, no assurance of righteousness, I say to you: Come to Yahushua. Put your faith in Him. We must have faith in Him to be saved.
Put your faith in Him and trust His righteousness is sufficient for you. His grace is what you need. He is waiting for you to reject fear, to reject lies about you and embrace His truth about you.
Now one reason why people can’t seem to love themselves and accept themselves is because they are still carrying guilt from some sin they have committed. It may have been the most awful sin that hurt someone terribly or something that you did against Yahweh, or whatever.
And so, they feel the burden of all this guilt, even though with their head they acknowledge, “Okay, I know that Yahushua forgives me, and all that.” But they are still carrying it.
But, you know, your sin is like a heavy stone. Your sin is like a heavy stone… a stone that only can be carried by one person. Either you carry it or Yahushua carries it. And you can’t help Him carry it. He doesn’t need your help.
You can’t do it. He is not willing. In fact, He is not even willing to help you carry it. You need to give it to Him or keep it for yourself. Which will you choose? Are you going to give that stone, the weight of your sin, to Him or are you just going to keep it for yourself?
It can’t be carried by two people. He won’t allow that. You are not righteous enough to carry it and be cleansed. Only Yahushua is righteous enough to carry it so that you will be cleansed. And so, He says:
Matthew 11:28 – Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
“I will carry the weight of your sin. And I will teach you and instruct you at a pace that you can manage. Because I love you. I value you. I care about you. How can you hate yourself when I love you so much? I will carry all the weight. All of it! Give it to Me.” That is what He is saying. Only He is strong enough to carry it anyway.
1John 4:9 – In this the love of Elohim was manifested toward us, that Elohim has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
10 – In this is love, not that we loved Elohim, but that He loved us and sent His Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.
He already proved it. He wants to carry it. Will you just give it to Him? He proved your worth right there if there was ever any doubt. If you need someone to actually care, He felt it. He knows what pain feels like. He felt the worst of the worst, for you and me, to put up with our failures and our wrongs and our mistakes.
And He says, “Look, greater love has no one than this, but to lay down your life for your friends.”
John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
There isn’t any greater love in the world than that. Greater love has no one than this.
Do you ever question your worth?
Matthew 10:30 – But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
That is your worth. And the eyes of Yahweh are on you.
Do you want someone to listen? Do you ever wish that you could just be heard? His ears are open to hear your prayers.
1 Peter 3:12 – “For the eyes of Yahweh are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers…”
You know, it just seems like everything that we need Yahweh provides. Do you need peace?
Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep [him] in perfect peace, [Whose] mind [is] stayed [on You], Because he trusts in You.
4 – Trust in YAHWEH forever, For in YAH, YAHWEH, [is] everlasting strength.
Do you need encouragement?
John 16:33 – These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
If you need provision…
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of Elohim and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
If you need forgiveness…
Psalms 103:12 – As far as the east is from the west, [So] far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Do you need to be understood?
Psalms 139:2 – You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.
3 – You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.
Do you need guidance?
Psalms 73:23 – Nevertheless I [am] continually with You; You hold [me] by my right hand.
24 – You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me [to] glory.
What a beautiful Scripture! Do you need to be rescued?
1Thessalonians 4:16 – For the Master Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of Elohim. And the dead in Messiah will rise first.
17 – Then we who are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Master.
Do you need someone you can trust?
Jeremiah 17:7 – Blessed [is] the man who trusts in YAHWEH, And whose hope is YAHWEH.
8 – For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Do you know something? Yahushua knows all the worst things about you, and yet He loves you so much. He is willing to be all these things for you. He was willing to be tortured just so He could be forever in eternity with you.
Almost everything… really, everything we really need, as human beings, Yahweh supplies through Yahushua our Savior. We just need to receive it. It’s just as easy as receiving His forgiveness through Messiah and committing ourselves to walking in the ways of love. It’s that simple.
And everything He says about us, all these promises belong to us. And if that doesn’t speak to our worth, I mean, what could? I mean, when someone very, very important cares enough about you to look your way and to say, “I’m going to be all these things for you,” it should help you realize how important you really are to Him.
You need someone to believe in you and care about your pain. He felt it Himself. Doesn’t that speak to your value and your worth? And to put up with all of our failures and wrongs and mistakes and love us anyway.
Listen, when I gave my life to Yahushua, it was the best decision I ever made, because everything He says about Himself, I have found to be true. Everything.
So what we need to do is we need to change our thought patterns if we are struggling with self-worth, bitterness against self. Spiritually rooted diseases, which are rooted in bitterness, can be resolved by choosing to agree with Yahweh’s Word over the words of His enemy. And to overcome, we need to realize and recognize identity statements.
Identity statements would be, basically, like name calling. Instead of saying, “I failed,” thinking, “I’m a failure.” Instead of thinking, “I made a mistake,” seeing myself as a mistake. Anything that would have to do with identity statements. “Never amount to anything.” Whatever. Those are identity statements.
And we need to recognize where they are and reject them. And so, if we are going to overcome and we are going to defeat this bitterness against ourselves, here are some steps we need to take:
Number one: Take responsibility for not believing Yahweh’s words, the words that promise forgiveness, the words that declare our true worth. Take responsibility for believing those lies.
And next, repent before Yahweh for believing the enemy instead of Yahweh’s words. Because like Eve in the garden of Eden, there were two voices she could choose to listen to. There was the voice of Yahweh, who told her partaking of the forbidden fruit was not good for her, and the voice of Yahweh’s enemy, who told her that it was actually good for her.
And today there are two voices that speak to us. The voice of Yahweh speaks the truth and the voice of the enemy speaks lies.
And so, instead of hearing Elohim speak to you, by His words and by the Holy Spirit, telling you that you are loved, telling you that you are accepted and holy and blameless and loved by Him, you hear these alternative doctrines coming from the doctrines of demons, coming into your mind, telling you how rotten, stupid or worthless you are.
Those are lies. And now instead of hearing, “I’m condemned,” you are going to say, “Okay, I’m convicted.” Instead of hearing words of cursing, you are going to say, “He is encouraging me to take a step forward.”
And any thoughts that cause you to doubt your value, I don’t care if you are a believer or an unbeliever, it’s not from Yahweh, because we have value and worth whether we are a believer or not. They are from the enemy directly or indirectly.
Indirectly if they are words that have been said to you by others, or by… I’m sorry, indirectly if they’re words said to you by others, or maybe your own thoughts because you have come to agree with those thoughts that the enemy places in your mind or in the mind of others.
So we need to recognize those thoughts for what they are. They are temptations– temptations to disbelieve Yahweh, temptations to call Yahweh the liar and Satan the one speaking truth. Eve chose to believe Satan words over Yahweh’s words and it’s been going on a long time.
There is a war going on over your soul and Satan wants to sift you like wheat. And we need to reject his lies at every level. So recognize those thoughts for what they are– a temptation to believe a lie. Remember that they are only a temptation. To have a temptation is not a sin. Yahushua Himself was tempted.
But Satan is kinda, you know, checking you out to see if you are going to believe his words. He is checking to see if you are going to yield to him and believe him over Yahweh. So take every thought captive to the obedience of the Messiah. And if you happen to fail, we do have a promise from Yahweh in the Scriptures.
If we confess, if we repent, we can be forgiven. Yahweh does not hold a grudge. It is the enemy who wants to lie to you and say Yahweh holds grudges. And so, he will try to identify you with the sins of your past. Yahweh identifies you as one who is cleansed, who is free, who is holy and righteous. Don’t doubt what Yahushua can do for you.
The enemy wants to tell you to give up on the idea of identifying yourself with Messiah because you will never be good enough to be like Him. That way he can tempt you to form another identity, an identity that is contrary to Messiah.
He wants to steal, to kill, to rob and destroy. And so, he wants to commit identity theft and take you away from the Messiah and lie to you by saying you will never make it and you will never be good enough to be considered one of the chosen.
Yahweh says the opposite. Whose voice are we going to believe? One or the other. You can’t be something in between. But we tend to sit between both definitions, two characters, not sure whether it is one or the other. So we need to repent for believing the enemy instead of Yahweh’s words.
So you tell Yahweh, “I’m not going to believe the enemy’s words anymore. I’m committing myself to not believing the words of the enemy. Now I’m going to believe the words that You speak to me and only Your words, Yahweh. Only things that are according to Your Word and what You say about me I am going to believe from now on.”
Next we need to verbally renounce all unscriptural lies and the unclean spirits that inspire them. Renounce every unclean spirit, renounce every lie you have ever been told, in the name of Yahushua Ha Mashiach.
Fourthly, learn to recognize the Identity lies. That means lying words from satan to try to get you to doubt your worth and Yahweh’s love for you. So any lie that has to do with identity, who you are, your worth, your value, whether you are forgiven or not, you are not forgiven, those kinds of things. Those are all identity lies. Recognize them.
And then retrain and rewire… see, if your brain has been hardwired since childhood to view yourself at such a low level, you may have to listen to these studies over and over again to retrain your mind back to the correct way of thinking. And do your own personal study into who Yahweh says you are.
Because I will tell you, it means a lot more when you discover His Word on your own than just listening to me tell you what it says. I am not saying don’t listen to what I am sharing, but do your own study, also.
Six: Be willing to battle against temptations that doubt your worth and value, to doubt whether you are worthy of being forgiven, that cause you to doubt anything that Yahweh has said about you. And when a “false identity statement” enters you mind, say, “No, I reject that in the name of Yahushua the Messiah.”
This is a battle in the spiritual realm that is warring on over your soul every day.
And so, you are going to say this… here is what you are going to say… you are going to say: “No, I choose to believe in the good news of Yahushua. It’s no longer I who live. Whatever yucky person that was before, I’m not that person anymore. It’s Yahushua who lives in me.
“The life which I now live, I live by faith in the Son of Elohim who loved me and gave Himself for me.” THAT gives me VALUE AND WORTH! Yahweh rebuke you, for it is written…
1John 1:8 – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I choose to believe it. Look at all He has done for us. Look at all that He has promised us. Beautiful!
Seven: Say, “I reject that fear statement, or that identity statement (because they are both connected together), in the name of Yahushua Ha Mashiach! I’m choosing to believe Yahweh’s words. I am choosing to let Yahushua bear my sin. I’m choosing to believe what HE says about me. I’m not going to carry that stone anymore.
“I have given it to Yahushua. He’s got it now. I’m going to believe what HE says about me, what Yahweh the Father says about me and the rest of those who repent and put their faith and trust in the Messiah Yahushua.” What does He say about me? Who does He say I am?
Who are you? What are you? “I am the King’s son and daughter,” whichever one you happen to be, son or daughter. This is who He says you are. Can you stand in front of the mirror, and say, “I am the King’s son.” “I am the King’s daughter.” “I am a branch of the heavenly vine. I am the light of the world. I am a friend with Messiah.
“I am a child of the Most High. I am one of Yahweh’s chosen people. I am His people, the people of Yahweh. In fact, I am ISRAEL! I am the temple of Yahweh’s Spirit. I am a part of the body of Messiah. I am His workmanship, wonderfully made. I am an adopted son and daughter. I am His special treasure. I am a partaker of the Divine Nature.
“I am an ambassador for Him. I am a person with power, love and a sound mind. I am transferred to the Kingdom. I am the head and not the tail. I am above and not beneath. I am forgiven. I am cleansed. I am a person who is at peace with my Elohim. I am seated in the Heavenly Places. I am more than a conqueror.
“In fact, I am a part of the city on a hill, a holy nation. In fact, I am a new creation. I am Yahweh’s jewel, called by His name, part of a royal priesthood, His special people, complete in Him, made beautiful, desired by the King, dead to sin and alive to Messiah!”
That’s what Scripture says you are! Now isn’t that a whole lot better than what the enemy promises you and what he says about you? Isn’t that a whole lot better than maybe what you’ve been thinking about yourself if you are struggling in this issue?
Yahweh is offering a deal for you and me. Will you take Him up on the offer to believe in Him and receive His love for you versus believing in and receiving an unloving, unclean spirit of self-hatred? Which one do you want? How do you want to live your life? Because life is not about guilt and shame. It’s about love, redemption, forgiveness and grace.
You know, the ministry of the Law has a certain purpose. But the ministry of grace is of a greater glory. The Law teaches us righteousness, and we need to follow it, but the ministry that gives us righteousness is superior to that ministry, actually– (2 Corinthians 3:9).
So listen, wouldn’t it be a good exchange for you if you could be healed instead of being sick? Would you take that? If someone offered you sanctification instead of unforgiveness, would you take it? If someone offered you power, love and a sound mind for insanity, would you take it? Does it sound like a good deal to you?
How about trust and faith in exchange for fear and anxiety? Would you take that? Sound fair? How about believing and receiving Yahweh’s love versus feeling unloved and very dirty and hated? What would you choose? What will you choose?
Can you look in the mirror, and say, “Hello, child of the King, light of the world, purified, forgiven, loved, holy, seated in the Heavenly Place, more than conqueror”? Can you look in the mirror and say that?
If you can’t, you need to have your mind renewed by the Living Word of Yahweh because this is what He says about you, not because of your righteousness, mind you, but because of the righteousness of the Messiah that dwells in you.
Look at all He has done for us. Wow! So many words will describe Yahweh, but look at how many words Yahweh uses to describe who we are. Just with one simple decision: repentance and faith in His Son. It’s available to any human being on the planet at any time and anywhere.
And all these things are who He says you are. That is a pretty good exchange I would say. If you have not entered into His promises, then do it right now.
Oh, heavenly Father, Yahweh, in Yahushua’s name we receive what Your Word has said about us and we thank You for it. We thank You, Father, that You have chosen us as Your sons and daughters, to be branches of a heavenly vine, to be a part of the light of the world, to be a friend of Messiah, to be Your chosen people, Your people.
And Father, for any who have not made these decisions, and they want to make this decision to become these things through Messiah Yahushua, as they repent before You and turn away from the lies they have been told about themselves, and turn away from the lies of the enemy, and turn away from unrighteousness and toward righteousness…
And receiving and believing and trusting in Your Son, Yahushua Ha Mashiach, for all of these promises to belong to them, hear their prayers before You. And thank You that You have made us a temple and dwelling place for Your Spirit, to be Your workmanship.
Thank You that You have made us so wonderfully and beautifully, for desiring us, for adopting us as sons and daughters, for giving us power, love and a sound mind, for making us a new creation, to be above and not beneath, the head and not the tail, transferred to Your Kingdom, that we might be at peace with You, seated in the Heavenly Places…
Far more than conquerors, but to be a royal priesthood, Your special people, complete in You, made beautiful, desired by You, dead to sin and alive unto Messiah. Oh, Yahweh, Your Word is so awesome! You supply every need in our heart. Give us who lack the faith to have the faith to embrace it.
For we know only in You, Oh, Yahweh, will we endure forever. Take this burden from us. It is too heavy. The stone, the heavy stone of our sin, we give it right now to Yahushua Ha Mashiach, who is more than strong enough and mighty enough to bear it.
We let it go and we choose to love all things that You love, to love Your people, to love our enemies, to love those who are less than loveable in the world’s eyes. And we also choose to love ourselves, because we know You truly do… You truly do… love us, Your people. And we just thank You for Your love toward us.
For truly Yours is the Kingdom and power and glory. Truly to You belongs all praise, all honor, all worship, and we just long, Father Yahweh, to be in Your presence for eternity. We thank You for Your promises. Through and by Your Son, Yahushua Ha Mashiach, we pray these things. Amein and HalleluYah!
