Altoids - Mints
Why This Product is Unclean
I contacted Altoids via email. Here is the response I got back.
"Thanks for checking in with us on the contents that make up Altoids. We understand it's important to you to know the ingredients in the food you eat, and we'd be happy to share the information with you.
The different varieties of Altoids mints do contain very small quantities of gelatin which comes from pork. Gelatin does not give any flavor to Altoids, but it's a necessary ingredient for the texture of the mint. When we use gelatin it is thoroughly purified and dried during its manufacturing process. Because of this process, gelatin isn't considered a meat food according to the U.S. government; however some vegetarians chose not to eat them because of where the gelatin comes from.
Our team is continually looking at alternatives to animal gelatin, but at the moment we've not been able to find a substitute that produces the same quality you've come to love with Altoids."
