Humility is only hard for the proud.

How many of us are proud?

Likely too many.

Humility has a way of serving and acting without drawing attention to itself.

“Look what I did!”

“See how I did it!”

While that’s fine for a few things, when it becomes a chronic – or consistent – habit, it also becomes a serious issue of either trying to build self-worth through accomplishments or a case of pride.

Exemptions

There are no exemptions.

We all have this challenge.

One way or the other.

We all fight pride.

We all avoid having to brow beat ourselves.

It’s too depressing.

Who wants to get down on themselves?

Scriptural View

“Humble” (KJV) first shows up with Moses and Aaron confronting Pharaoh.

Now, I’m sure we can all agree that Pharaoh had a problem with pride.

Big problem.

He refused to be humble.

In Hebrew, he refused to look down…or browbeat (Strong’s H6031).

Pride carries a high look.

Humility doesn’t.

And Proverbs 16:19 exemplifies another contrast of the proud and the humble.

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

(Proverbs 16:19, KJV)

Here is another proverb…

A man’s pride shall bring him low: honor shall uphold the humble is spirit.

(Prov. 29:23, KJV)

Yahshua’s Input

Yahshua pointed out that humility is like being a child, to humble oneself as a little child (Matt. 18:4).

He also noted that…

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

(Matt. 23:12, KJV)

Wow.

If we lift ourselves up, we’ll get kicked off our high horse.

Yet, if we humble ourselves, we’ll be lifted up.

Other Mentions

James also expands on Yahshua’s words.

Twice (James 4:6, 10).

The humble receive grace from Elohim.

The proud do not.

They get resistance.

James encourages us to be humble before Yahweh.

Humble yourselves in the sight of Yahweh, and he shall lift you up.

(James 4:10, KJV)

And Peter uses similar words too.

Have you read 1 Peter 5:5-6?

Humble yourselves therefore under the might hand of Elohim, that he may exalt you in due time:

(1 Peter 5:6, KJV)

Humility is the better choice.

Something To Think About

Humble? Humility?

So what does that mean?

Do we go around with cutting ourselves down?

Should we have a low self-esteem?

Do we remain silent about everything?

I think we have humility all wrong.

It isn’t about cutting ourselves down to size.

It’s more about this…

Instead of thinking less of yourself…

…think of yourself less often.
