Last week we ventured into thinking about our hearts set on winning. It was also an eye opener setting our hearts on that one goal can narrow and limit us for the long term to our “win” in life. That was a hard one to grasp. How come?
Recap
To illustrate, I turned to an example of teams competing in problem solving. That’s what we do as women, all day long: we solve problems, from little ones to big ones and everything in between. Let’s recap:
You’re on a team of 6 members, working together to solve a variety of problems, just like the other team. Both teams have a goal: win. In order to win, each team needs a strategy. There are different strategies. It may be team work, or capitalizing on the other team’s weaknesses. It might be operating in a mini-hierarchy with ranks of skill. There might be communication between team members, or only orders from one or two.
There is, however, another strategy that leads to a greater win in life. It works in problem solving, relationships, miscommunication (and therefore misunderstanding and inevitable conflicts), confrontations, etc. It works everywhere and with everyone. Now, that’s my idea of a good strategy, an almost “one size fits all.”
One of the Best Strategies
The strategy is understanding. Whoa. Sounds simple, but there’s more involved…of course.
Understanding includes looking at the “alleged” opponent, that is, it involves observation. Observation includes watching with the intent to understand. When we watch, we take notes, put together a story with a discourse and then utilize the new information in our response.
It takes time to do this, to really understand with the intention to serve others in Yahushua’s love.
Join me next week to learn more.
