These are rules and regulations for submitting artwork to the Daughters Of Light (DOL) Team’s magazine, A Light In The Darkness (ALITD; est. 2023). These rules and regulations will be updated regularly without notice. It is your responsibility to stay updated with these rules and regulations.

By submitting your artwork, it is understood by the DOL Team that you have read and agreed to the rules and regulations for artists.

Thank you for sharing your gift of artwork. The DOL Team prefers original artwork to display in their magazine, ALITD.

Terms Used on This Page

“You”, “yours”, “artist(s)” refers to all ages of female-born women and girls who pursue Torah and Yahushua the Messiah that are submitting artwork (defined below).

“Artwork”, “art”, “art pieces” and “picture” refer to any sketches, pencil or pen drawings, painted artwork, original clip art, and/or photography.

Original Artwork & Ages

You agree to produce artwork that is original to you, which means you draw freehand (this excludes tracing). It may include pencil, pen, paint (watercolor, pastel, acrylic, oil, blends, etc.). Artwork must be your own. If there is any question about authenticity, the DOL Team reserves the right to withdraw the submission.

Ages that the DOL Team accepts artwork from ranges from as young as 5 years to as old as 99 years+.

Use of Scripture

You are allowed to have scriptural references, and/or quotations with your artwork. The DOL Team prefers the usage of the Names of Father and Son. If you submit artwork containing the titles (Lord, LORD, God, GOD) and “Jesus”, we retain the right to exclude the quotation from the artwork.

Excluded Items, Not Allowed on Artwork

  1. Artwork that contains these items/elements will be subjected to rejection, or cropped from the picture.
    • Name Brands, logos, trademarks of companies (past and present), websites and/or social media. (e.g. Walmart, Coke, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
    • Hearts, paisley prints, peace signs, crosses, faces on sun, moon, and stars.
    • License plates, vehicle brands (Ford, Dodge, etc.)
    • Body parts exposing the Torah boundaries of nakedness. This includes the torso (starting at the shoulders) down to the knees. (e.g. shorts, tank tops, swimsuits, etc.)
  2. The DOL Team prefers artwork of Yahweh’s creation, such as scenery and domesticated and/or non-domesticated animals.
    • Pictures from feast festivities may be included (e.g. Sabbath, Passover, Sukkot). Artist must provide written permission from each participant in the picture taken. This will include their name, current contact information, and a statement verifying their permission with their signature. Written permission will be kept on file and allows the DOL Team to use the picture/photo as many times as they choose.
    • Regular pictures of people standing for the camera or caught in the picture are also required to be provided with written permission from each participant in the picture taken (as per described above).

Photographs

If you are photographing people in your pictures, please have them doing an action (reading, dancing, praising, foraging, walking, etc.). You are required to obtain their permission to be in the picture and include their written permission along with your submission.

If photographing plants, please include plant identification (scientific name and common name). It is optional to include the plant family and native range.

You may include a small description with your picture (optional).

Artists/Illustrators:

Pencil sketches, color pencil coloring, and paintings.

If you are drawing people in your pictures, please have them doing an action (reading, dancing, praising, foraging, walking, etc.). If your subject is someone you know, please include their written permission along with your submission.

If you are drawing plants, please include plant identification (scientific name and common name). It is optional to include the plant family and native range.

Scenery pictures, gardening, still pictures are welcomed.

Artwork Per Issue

Each magazine issue has a theme, which is included in the “Artist’s Invitation.” To be a part of the Artist’s Invitation, please submit your name and email and/or cell phone number. The DOL team also accepts Facebook Messenger as a means of communication.

Front Cover Art Submissions

Artwork intended for the front cover of the magazine is required to be in color, in accordance to the color palette prescribed by the DOL Team for each issue. Color palette is available here (please scroll down the page). Team submissions of two (2) participants are also accepted. Names are required to be included for credit. Artists must sign in the bottom right hand corner of the picture, within the picture to be included on the front cover of the ALITD magazine. Submission of artwork may be delivered in several ways:

  1. Hand-delivered. You may deliver the artwork to Saige at the thrift and grocery store in Ava, MO. She will scan it in and return the artwork (if preferred) or keep it on file.
  2. Email. You may scan in the artwork using an adequate scanner. You may also take a picture using a cell phone. The DOL Team prefers you take several pictures for the Team to choose from.
    • Take the picture without shadows of you or the cell phone you use. Direct light provides the clearest picture. Take a picture outside (weather permitting). Take a picture with the artwork standing/leaning against a support.
    • Make sure the lens is properly cleaned. Smudged/distorted/fuzzy pictures will not be accepted.
    • The shape of the artwork in the picture must resemble a proper rectangle (opposing top and bottom edges are equal to each other and slightly to moderately smaller than the sides, which are equal to each other) or a perfect square.
    • Email all submissions to or the.dol.team.mt.516@gmail.com. Include the proper spelling of your name, your best email, and which art pieces are being submitted for the front cover. Initials are also accepted.
    • If you prefer initials when listed under the “List of Contributors” page, please specify.
    • If you prefer not to publish your name, please specify. Artists who prefer to remain anonymous are credited as “Psalm 115:1” or “Ps. 115:1”. Artists are listed on the Contributors page as “Artists under Psalm 115:1” with the listed email, daughtersoflight@eliyah.com.
    • If you prefer to promote your artwork, it is acceptable to submit one (1) social media link or one (1) website link. Please ensure the proper spelling of the link.
  3. Link to portfolio. If you are submitting several pieces of your artwork, you may do so by providing a link to the DOL Team for access to the portfolio.
    • The link is accessed by Saige. She will download the folders and create an artist’s folder under your name that will contain your artwork.
    • Saige will be granted the right to choose the artwork for the magazine. She will ensure that each magazine will contain at least one (1) art piece from the portfolio.
    • If the portfolio is the means of transferring specific artwork, you will email Saige at daughtersoflight@eliyah.com to inform her of your submission.
